Unit 2- Drafting ideas for a Kulhar Kup campaign

Image
Following on from the news article about Indias decisions to reintroduce Kulhar back onto the railway, I decided to experiment with the branding concept for this. I analysed British Chai-Tea packaging and came up with some logos I could experiment with further. I decided to incorporate some of the symbols and ideas that came up in my workshop into my logo generation. This provided me with an effective springboard for ideas as I already had shapes to work with. This really showed me the benefit of focusing first on shape and form and then colour. I analysed the Twinings packaging for their 'Spicy Chai'. I enjoyed observing their use of the colour and their reasoning for these choices. It brought up some ideas and inspiration for my own project.

Unit 2- Notes on India's Decision to Introduce the Kulhar into Railway Systems

Image
I was very excited to read that the Indian Government has decided to bring Kulhar cups onto the railway system! They're aiming to reach a point where there is no single-use plastics and so the compostable clay cups are a great alternative.  I plan on producing/planning a sort of campaign for this, that the government and potters could use. I plan on integrating the symbols I produced during my Thursday workshop.

Unit 2- Exploring Shapes Within my Sketches

Image
I used Adobe Illustrator to explore the shapes I could find in my sketches. I explored the shape of the cup and the watch.  I plan on developing these shapes further to create a logo for a campaign.

Unit 2- Sketching Topic-Related-Objects Compositions

Image
For my workshop today I brought in 4 objects that related to my chosen topic: sustainable cultural traditions.  Henna hair dye is a sustainable trend in India that provides an alternative to harmful chemical-based hair-dye. China balm/ Tiger balm is a traditional remedy that relieves muscle pain. Discovered in China , it is a sustainable and long-lasting alternative to medication. It is Japanese tradition wrap items in cloth when transporting them, this is an effective alternative for plastic wrapping such as cling-film. Tin cup from India, a long-lasting material that can sustain wear and tear and therefore is less wasteful. It's interesting to observe the words an alternative audience interpreted from them. The words such as 'self-care' and 'clean' tell me that these traditions can be used to benefit the environment as well as ourselves. This has inspired me to research into the mental health benefits of living sustainably. Perhaps I could look into the philosophi...

Unit 2- Planning my Primary Research

Image
I decided to mindmap my ideas for sourcing my primary research. I've decided that I'm going to mainly focus on interviews but I will also put out a survey. I posted 4 posts on both my Instagram accounts to recruit people to interview about sustainability. I sampled the blue background from the colour palette that 'Spotify Wrapped' was using at the time- a trend that young people were posting to their Instagrams on the day I posted these stories. I thought that using the same colour palette would invite audiences to engage and read the information I used a slide that gave examples to add clarity and make my request obvious so I recruit the right typeof interviewee I used colour to highlight the key words and get the key message across effectively I then posted these stories to my Facebook in order to recruit more people and from a different age range. I discovered that reposting them faltered the quality of the posts and also that the older audience wouldn't be able...

Unit 2- My Take on Hanne Viehmann's Research

Image
Hanne Viehmann is a creative practitioner that researched the sustainability of the Kulhar and produced design work inspired by this. I find her work enlightening and inspiring as she researches in extreme detail and creates ethically sustainable designs based off this. Below is the notes I took from her online website.

Unit 2- Notes on 'Culture's Role in Environmental Change'

Image
I recently read this article in The Guardian:  'Culture's Role in Environmental Change'  .  Below are the notes I gathered from it. I found it useful for validating my thoughts on creative responsibility as well as the climate crisis at hand.
