Unit 2- Final Posters Finished

These are the series of 3 posters I created in an aim to reflect upon sustainable cultural traditions within my own culture. I feel these posters definitely reflect these traditions and also use the traditions of the London Underground to their advantage and to spread their message.

Unit 2- Planning for Train Posters

Image
After researching a lot and developing my ideas, I came to a conclusion about the work I wanted to produce. I wanted to create a series of 3 posters that would be found in the Underground station. This is because the majority of British public will see these as their location (the Underground) is popular, even essential, for British people.

Unit 2- Researching Blondey McCoy

Image
Following my reflection on needing a more relevant artist inspiration, I remembered noting down Blondey McCoy's collages in my notebook. I had wanted to experiment with his technique of simple collages that represent British culture perfectly.

Unit 2- Researching Jenny Odell for inspiration

Image
I discovered Jenny Odell's work whilst researching art inspired by Google maps. I originally wanted to create something from the images I collected on  Google Earth  and so found her work very inspiring.  I decided to collect more images using Google Earth, this is the project I created using the software, that collates locations across Britain that represent its sustainable cultural traditions:  Britain's Sustainable Cultural Traditions on the map.

Unit 2- Exploring Britain's sustainable locations

Image
Inspired by the results of my  survey  , I decided to research the 4 most popular sustainable cultural traditions: cycling/walking places, recycling food and rubbish, growing own food and buying second-hand.  I decided to locate 4 areas on the British map that represents these traditions. Using the locations of these traditions would help the British public realise that sustainability can be find right in front of them, as these locations are easily recognisable to someone living in Britain. This would hopefully encourage them to live more sustainably as they see how accessible it is to be; thus creating positive change. Boris bikes- cycling to places rather than driving. Recycling bins- recycling rubbish  Allotments- growing own food Charity shop- buying second hand

Unit 2- Analysing survey results

Image
I decided to create a survey on sustainable cultural traditions in order to inform my work. This is the survey: https://forms.gle/zgv8xdpnEdHvfPJMA I then made charts to help me analyse the answers participants gave. Considering the majority of participants were white/British, this survey really taught me the reality of my own cultures attitudes towards sustainability and it inspired me to produce some work that's inspired by this. Perhaps I could create something that shows the British public sustainable cultural traditions within their own culture, teaching them how to use them and in turn teaching myself about my own culture. From these pie charts, I can see that the majority of white/British people: Are very willing to change their lifestyle to be more sustainable. Very likely to try an environmentally friendly product. Have a moderately sustainable lifestyle. Believe their culture moderately encourages sustainable living. Extremely concerned about the environment. I lear...

Unit 2- Research for label and final editing for chai packaging

Image
After speaking with my tutor and getting advice from my peers, I decided to do some minor alterations to the title of the front side in order to make the design more cohesive. I swapped the font for a more lightweight one and matched the colour to the light cream of the paisley pattern in the corner. My tutor also advised that I create a more realistic label that the company could actually use, so I conducted some research into the legal requirements of labelling and also looked at some example I found in my kitchen.
