Unit 1- Print, Extraction in Mark-Making

In order to explore extraction, I was introduced to the 'viewfinder'. I found this tool really useful and intend on using it again. It allows you to home in on interesting marks you've made. My appraisal for it is below.


I then used this viewfinder to find my 5 favourite 'sections' in the mark-making series I based on my personality. I blew up and draw these sections in continuous line, shown below.







I alternated between sharpie and charcoal with these and found that the sharpie drawings are my favourite. I've noted that I enjoy bold lines as opposed to implied, faded lines and I feel this shows in all of my projects. I have learned definitively that sharpie is my favourite tool to use and so will turn to it in the future.

I then developed this further by extracting even smaller sections from 3 of these pieces using the viewfinder. Following the same process, these are the results.
