Unit 2- Making the Zine

After completing my planning and organising its content, I decided to create a draft in order to see the how successful my plan would be and also plan ways to improve. It was important for me to do this prior to printing as it would reduce the risk of wasting money and printing time. This is a factor I had to consider as Zine's are traditionally used by artists to voice their opinions without censorship or monetary restrictions.

I decided to create my zine digitally, as I intended on adding colour to make it more cohesive.

I hand-drew the pages and then scanned them into Adobe Illustrator to add colour. These are my original illustrations:

Below is the final, official print and layout I made for the zine. I added just the colour brown to the images as that's the colour of the clay that the cups are made out of- I feel it makes the images more cohesive. One thing I plan on improving on is the lack of captions- I intend on creating another print that has handwritten captions that describe what is happening in the illustrations.

This print was successful as there was a reasonable border around the images that allowed for folding as-well as the imaginary border a printer creates when printing. This means that no images were cut off when printing.

These are the prints that were unsuccessful:

I only flipped the top images one way, so when they were printed they read backwards.

There are no gaps between the images for folding, this means the images overlap the folds and it doesn't appear professional or neat. Also, the images are too close to the edge of the page and so the printer cuts them off when printed.
